Moet & Chandon Champagne Cuvee Dom Perignon Vintage 750ML 1999

Moet & Chandon Champagne Cuvee Dom Perignon Vintage 750ML 1999

Dom Perignon was the 17th century Benedictine monk who has gone down in history as the person who invented Champagne. His name was originally registered by Eugene Mercier. He sold the brand name to Moët & Chandon, which used it as the name for its prestige cuvée, which was first released in 1937.

Tasting:

Even richer than the brilliant 1990, the 1996 is still tightly wound, but reveals tremendous aromatic intensity, offering hints of bread dough, Wheat Thins, tropical fruits, and roasted hazelnuts

Dom Pérignon, the great reference in luxury champagne. The vintage 1990 is rich, almost creamy but remaining elegant and tasty. Dom Pérignon Oenothèque 1990 has reached a second fullness during the time it was cellared. With aromas of roasting and wooded spices melted with rock candy and dried bark. 1990 is an outstanding year, perhaps better than the wonderful 1982. This bottle is a must-have from Dom Pérignon.

The 1996 vintage has all the inimitable traits of Dom Pérignon Rosé. It has the lightheartedness, vivacity and vibrancy of the Pinot Noir grape while still maintaining the balance between the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that is unique to the Dom Pérignon style. This play of contrasts reaches such a degree of density and sophistication that it achieves a sublime harmony.

Tasting:

Color. Coppery pink with light orange highlights. On the nose. The aroma of malt rapidly leads into that of well-ripened fruit, nectarine and wild strawberries, complemented by smoky, peaty accents.

On the palate. In a paradox that typifies the vintage, concentration and movement vie each other with an affirmation of boldness and authority. The tastes progress with strength - tense, radiant and sharp. The finish is firm, underscored with a slightly vanilla-spicy note.

A stronger vintage than expected, the 1998 Dom Perignon exhibits aromas and flavors of lemon oil, orange rind, and brioche in a medium-bodied, zesty, rich, moderately intense style. It is far superior to either the 1993 or 1992. Readers should remember that the 1971 Dom Perignon Rose is still drinking exquisitely.

1969 and 1970 Dom Perignons (from magnum), and both were drinking brilliantly. It makes one realize just how long-lived these wines can be.

With a fullness in the mouth, its earthy, smoky, pearly complexity rises to the surface, underscored by the vibrant warmth of peppery spice. The sensation of intensity develops and melts into a deep, rounded heart, with a fruity, exotic maturity and a slight touch of aniseed. This sensation, almost unsettling, is even more pronounced in the finish, while the notes of spice, still present, remain discreet, with toasted, iodine flavors.

Dom Perignon Vintage 2000 is mysterious yet present, enigmatic and luminous, austere and opulent, elegant and sensual. This vintage, which opens the 21st century, couldn’t possibly be a better expression of Dom Perignon’s timeless style.

This delicate exercise if full of risks. The assemblage of each Dom Perignon vintage is a creative act in the most inspired and daring sense of the term. The extra effort that goes into its making enables each vintage to express its unique character while affirming (through its singularity) the timeless style of Dom Perignon. All this is true for Dom Perignon Vintage 2000.
